Gli stabilimenti ferroviari di Porta al Prato dopo i bombardamenti, primavera 1944 (Isrt)

The Tuscan coast is hit by bombs since spring 1943, whereas the Florentine province is bombed in autumn.

However these operations become particularly intense especially in spring 1944 when the allies try to interrupt the access to the South of Italy and to the Cassino front.

There are daily air-raid warnings and airstrikes: heavy damage is brought to some areas of the city and in the major towns of the province such as Prato and Pontassieve.

At the end of the war some hundreds of deaths are registered..
